Meet the founder

Hi, I’m James, founder of Medkey. After achieving a 97th percentile UCAT score and receiving multiple medicine and dental interview invitations, I founded Medkey to help Hong Kong and international students approach UK medical admissions more strategically.

Why Medkey?

Top students still get rejected from medicine every year. Often, it is not due to intelligence- but poor strategy

Medkey focuses on strategic preparation for UCAT, interviews and medical school preparation, helping students apply smarter, not just study harder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do strong students still get rejected from medicine?

A lot of students assume strong predicted grades are enough for medicine applications ,especially for
competitive UK universities. In reality, UCAT performance, interview strategy and even university choices
can completely change an application outcome. I started Medkey because I saw many capable students
underperform simply because nobody explained the admissions system properly.

Is UCAT mainly about intelligence?

Not really. Of course academic ability matters, but many students improve significantly once they
understand timing, pattern recognition and decision-making under pressure. Some of the strongest
students struggle initially because they approach the UCAT like a school exam instead of a strategy exam.

Do Hong Kong students face unique challenges applying to UK medicine?

Yes ! many Hong Kong and international students are academically strong but may be less familiar with
how UK interviews, communication skills and admissions systems are assessed. Small strategic mistakes
can make a huge difference in highly competitive applications.

How is Medkey different from standard tutoring?

Most tutoring focuses on content delivery and repetitive practice. MedKey focuses more on understanding
the system itself , how universities assess applicants, how interviews are scored and how students can
prepare more strategically rather than simply studying harder.

Which interview styles do you help with?

Support is available for traditional panel interviews, MMIs and more academically focused interview styles.
Sessions focus heavily on structured thinking, communication and confidence under pressure.

Do you offer trial lessons?

Yes! Trial lessons and consultations are available before committing to regular mentoring sessions. This
gives students and parents an opportunity to understand the teaching style and identify key areas for
improvement first.
